Kevin Conliffe is principal of the Marcaoimh Tuition Centre, Friary House, Naas, Co. Kildare, where he also teaches Applied Mathematics at the school. Students come to Kevin’s Applied Mathematics classes from schools throughout Co. Kildare. Usually they are taking Applied Maths as an extra-curricular subject at the tuition centre.
In 2003 Kevin was awarded the Victor Graham trophy by INCA (Institute for Numerical Computation and Analysis) in recognition of his many years of outstanding contribution to the teaching of Applied Mathematics.
Kevin’s book text ‘Applied Mathematics Leaving Certificate Foundation Mechanics for Third Level’ is in use in many schools throughout the country. Since its launch in 2002 this has become a preferred text book for teachers because of its alignment with those examination papers set in recent years. An accompanying manual of solutions is available to compliment the text book.
For over 30 years Kevin has taught Maths, Physics and Applied Maths. His former students have themselves become well established in the Mathematics field. One former student is now a Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Among his personal hobbies is his particular interest and insight into the work of Galileo and has undertaken research at the science museum in Florence.
